Spartan is going to be an alternative to Internet Explorer in the upcoming Windows 10.
Spartan was initially being referred to as Internet Explorer 12, up until recently. Microsoft listed the name change in a blog posting on Thursday 22nd. Spartan is part of Microsoft’s plan to converge mobile and desktop to a single browsing experience. This allows for a smoother interaction for the end users across the multiple Microsoft platforms.
One of the big ideas for Spartan is that you will be able to “markup” locally cached copies of websites. Circle items, jot down notes, on your favorite page and it becomes a locally stored item that you can refer back to later on.
Spartan’s integration with Cortana (Similar to Siri / OK Google) is supposed to allow for a smoother and faster browsing experience by being able to get search results and queried information back easier to the Spartan interface.
Current plans are that IE11 will still ship with Windows 10 as an alternative to provide a comfort factor for those that still prefer the current browser experience.
